FAQ
What is Picobase?
Picobase is a platform for deploying and monetizing full-stack web apps. It is similar to traditional hosting platforms like Vercel and Cloudflare, but on Picobase users are billed directly for usage instead of the developer. On Picobase user and organization management is built into the platform and comes with an expanding set of services available out of the box such as database and file storage.
How do I build apps?
You can build apps using any modern web framework. When you are ready to deploy you upload your app in the Picobase developer portal (we are working on a cli). Our aim is making deployment as easy as traditional hosting platforms.
How does Picobase work?
To use apps deployed on Picobase users create app spaces and are later billed based on usage. App spaces are similar to workspaces in other apps and can be shared with other users and configured independently.
What about backend only services?
With Picobase you can deploy backend only services such as APIs used in native apps or handlers of webhooks etc.
What about native apps?
You can create native apps and distribute them as normal on Google Play, App Store etc. You can create backend APIs that your native app can access, but right now you need to handle the authentication yourself if needed. We are working on documentation and native SDKs to make this easier.
What is an app space?
Users create an app spaces to use Picobase apps. They are similar to Workspaces in Notion and servers in Discord. Each space is billed separately and users can be shared with other users.
